Red Cross assisting Manitobans affected by flooding

(WINNIPEG, July 15, 2014) – Manitoba residents affected by recent flooding can get assistance from the Canadian Red Cross in person or over the telephone.

Starting today, the Canadian Red Cross is travelling to a number of communities hit by severe weather over the past few weeks to offer immediate aid, as well as clean-up supplies and hygiene kits.

Red Cross teams will be at the following locations:

  • Today – Deloraine, Community Hall, 111 Caver St. N., until 6 p.m.;
  • Wednesday and Thursday – Brandon, Keystone Centre, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.;
  • Friday – Pierson, R.M. of Edward office, 58 Railway Ave., 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Additional locations and dates will be announced once confirmed.

People who were affected by flooding can also call the Canadian Red Cross toll-free number, 1-888-662-3211.

“In some cases, people need essential items or food because of the impact of flooding. The Red Cross, working collaboratively with organizations, will do our best to quickly help these individuals, whether they are in person or on the phone,” said Shawn Feely, Red Cross provincial director for Manitoba.

Individuals wishing to help Manitobans affected by flooding can make a donation by calling Canadian Red Cross 1-800-418-1111 or by donating online at www.redcross.ca/mbflood. Red Cross relies on generous individuals and corporations to help families impacted by disaster.
